The Count of Monte Cristo (Penguin Classics)

The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas, Robin Buss Can a regular revenge story be written more beautifully ? I doubt! There is detail in it. A lot of it. The story is simple to begin with, but it was written for a weekly as a serial and it shows in the way the drama thickens and as one goes through pages of quasi philosophical discussions that happen in Dantes' conflicted mind, as he ponders over the dilemmas, one can certainly find enough allegory to identify and empathize with him. A must read. And if imitation is flattery, then this is one of the most flattered books of all time, i suppose.
