One of the finest books i read. Full of hope and resolve. The old man is one of my favorite characters of all time. And this quote is one of my favorites too:"It is easy when you are beaten, he thought. I never knew how easy it was."The plot is simple. A feisty old man goes fishing and the sea defeats him. But not before he puts up an almighty fight. Hemingway particularly gets the length of the book right. Almost perfect. Any longer, it would have had to incorporate distractions and any shorter, the reader would not have invested enough time to empathize with the old man.
